The previous post highlighted the OECD PISA 2018 findings on the impact of social class on the job expectations, career aspirations, and career planning of young people, in particular the negative impact for disadvantaged young people.
This special report from the NYT (February 2020) gives a concrete example of how a Careers Centre at a higher education institution in Brooklyn, NYC, has built bridges to the world of work for such young people by creating a network of “aunts and uncles, the friends of the family that those kids don’t have”.
